Berta Meyerson Molasky of Petoskey Michigan formerly of Detroit Michigan, died on 20 December 2014.

Born Berta Tauber in Detroit MI to Benjamin Tauber and Anne Merliss Tauber, Berta passed away peacefully in Petoskey MI surrounded by family and friends.

She was raised and lived most of her life in the Detroit area. After graduating from Detroit Central High School, she attended University of Michigan and Wayne State University, graduating from Wayne with a BS in Education, Pi Lambda Theta, in 1954. Continuing with her lifelong commitment to learning and education she added an M.A. in English in 1959 and an Education Specialist degree in reading in 1982, both from Wayne State. She was A.B.D. for a Ph.D. in Education.

She taught Auditorium and Reading for the Detroit school district from 1954-1962. She returned to teaching after raising her children, working for Oak Park Schools from 1978-1992 as a reading specialist.

You could often find Berta at the Bridge Club, and she earned a Silver Life Master in 2011. She also enjoyed tennis, skiing, and sailing. Berta traveled overseas extensively, visiting dozens of countries over the course of her life, and every continent except Antarctica. She enjoyed hostessing and assisting the Meyerson brothers at their restaurants, The Scotch & Sirloin and The Trio. Berta was a voracious reader, and was a patron of the Detroit and Traverse City symphonies. A huge fan of all Detroit and University of Michigan sports, she especially loved the Tigers and almost always had the game on the radio or television.

She donated countless hours of her time as well as financial support to many charitable groups such as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children Guardian ad litem), National Council of Jewish Women (President), Charlevoix Hospital and Garden Club (volunteer).

She retired and spent her latter years up north in Charlevoix and Petoskey alongside her family. More than anything, Berta enjoyed being a central part in the lives of her family. Her children and beloved grandchildren inherited her dedication to her community and public service; they are all active community members.

She was predeceased by two husbands, Gerald Meyerson (married from 1961-1980), and Marvin Molasky (married from 1990-2009).

Berta was survived by brother Joel (Shelley) Tauber, sister-in-law Shelby Tauber, lifelong friend and confidante Barbara Mayer; children Benjamin (Nicole Dewey) Meyerson, Valerie (Tom Johnson) Meyerson, Joshua (Mary Jean) Meyerson, Emily (Harry Kitchen) Meyerson; grandchildren Jeremiah and Anne Johnson, Max and Gabriel Meyerson, and Amanda Kitchen.

Berta knew what she liked and was not afraid to ask for it. Many local restaurants knew her as the lady who liked her coffee decaf and extra hot, and ordered her French fries very well done.
