"Peggy" Frances Barnes Newland, 91, of Wakarusa, Kansas, formerly of Bossier City, passed away, January 2, 2015. She was born in Marshall, Texas, March 8, 1923 to Melville Noel and Sarah Elizabeth Barnes. Peggy was married to Ross Glenn Newland for 50 treasured years. Peggy was a longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma teaching sorority and she was a loyal member of First United Methodist Church for 60 years..


Peggy was a teacher and a librarian at Rusheon Jr. High for years. Then she became the Media Center Director at Bellaire Elementary in Bossier City. After she retired from teaching, she worked part time doing children's story hour at Bossier Parish Libraries. Her later years were spent in Wakarusa, Kansas with grandchildren and great grandchildren giving them all the love she possessed and spoiling them as much as she could..


She is survived by her 3 children: Ross Newland Jr. of Anderson, SC; Betsy Newland Harlan of Wakarusa, KS; and Peggy Sue Newland of Wakarusa, KS. She also is survived by 3 grandchildren: Peter Newland of Charlotte, NC; Susan Wilson, of Overland Park, KS; and Stephenie Wells, of Lee's Summit, MO. Her 5 great-grandchildren were the light of her later years. .


Visitation will be held Friday, January 9, 2015, from 9 to 11AM at First United Methodist Church of Bossier City. Funeral services will be held immediately following. Interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Longwood, LA next to her beloved husband, Ross..
