Meredith G. Imel, 67, lifelong Shelby County resident, died Nov. 24 at Major Hospital.

Born Jan. 31, 1933, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Hugh and Gladys (Perry) Imel. He married Leona Favors and she preceded him in death in Feb. 1991. He married Jerri Wilson on Sept. 11, 1999, and she survives.

Other survivors include two brothers, Harold "Bud" Imel, Fountaintown, and Duane Imel, Shelbyville; and one sister, Mrs. Ray (Joan) Klapper, Shelbyville.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Mr. Imel attended Fairland High School, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was employed at Chevrolet Division of GM, Indianapolis, for 30 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and vice president of SouthEast Senior Center.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home with the Rev. James Duncan officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by local veteran organizations.

Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
