William Howard "Bushy" Abbitt, age 89, of Spencer passed away at 5:15 A.M. on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born in Monroe County on February 7, 1925, the son of William Harvey & Lydia L. (Ridgeway) Abbitt. He was a farmer, IU police officer and a bus driver for the Richland Bean Blossom School Corporation. He graduated in 1944 from Ellettsville High School. He enjoyed rebuilding and restoring old log cabins, traveling, riding his golf cart, hosting chili and bean dinners, country music, and being with family.
He is survived by three daughters, Pamela (Larry) Fender of Indianapolis , Lesa G. (Kevin) Gabbard of Ellettsville, Billie S. (Bob) Jones of Ellettsville, a sister, Georgia Lucas of Mesa, AZ, eight grandchildren, Eric and Brandon (Melody) Fender, Justin, Zack, Corey, and Brody Gabbard, Mollie and Gracie Jones, a great grandchild, Izzy Gabbard, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Louise (Arthur) Abbitt, his parents, sisters, Violet Hassler, Wanda Abbitt, Thelma McConnell, Elsie Abbitt, and an infant sister.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Methodist Cemetery in Ellettsville. Friends may call from 4-8pm Monday, and 10-11am on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or JDRF Foundation.
