Alberta June Aukerman, 89, Union City, Ind., died peacefully in the emergency room at Reid Hospital in Richmond on Saturday, January 3, 2015.
She was born January 16, 1925 to Albert and Myrtle (Frazier) Williamson and was a 1943 graduate of Wayne High School. She married Robert L. Aukerman on February 24, 1944 one week before he left to serve with the U.S. Army in the Pacific in World War II. She worked with him when they farmed and later when he went into the service station business. Together they raised a family of four. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1988.
Alberta loved Jesus, her family, and her church (South Salem) family. A strong-spirited woman, she always had a song in her heart.
Survivors include: two daughters and two sons, Cindi (Bromagen), Allen and Jan Aukerman, all of Union City, and Bonita Young, San Diego; grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Stump, Union City, Tyler (Paige) Aukerman, Columbus, Ohio, Michael J. (Karen) Young, Las Vegas, Tara Jo (Brent) Hefner, and Ryan (Sean) Young, all of San Diego; and Curtis (Tiffany) Hepler, Soldotna, Alaska; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Billie Whitesel; three sisters-in- law, Martha Hunt, Marylin (Tom) Price and Wanda Aukerman; brother-in-law, Walter Mills; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by: her brother, Guy Williamson; sisters Bea (Floyd) Harshman, Elna (Max) Ingle, Pauline Mills, and Maxine (Bill) Shricker; her husband's parents, Marshall and Elsie Aukerman, and his siblings, Lucille (Talbert) Wion, Richard Aukerman, Darrell (Doris) Aukerman; brothers-in-law Albert Hunt and Cy Whitesel; and son-in-law Francis Bromagen.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday at Reichard Funeral Home in Union City. The funeral service with Pastor Dave Napier presiding will be at 11 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Brethren Cemetery on north State Line. Memorial contributions may be made to South Salem Church or to the Brethren Cemetery Fund with envelopes at the funeral home.
