...Philip Lawler, a.k.a. "Father", served in the Civil War on the Union side with the Co. A, 146 IL Infantry. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1865 in Springfield, IL. He started working for the railroad laying tracks west. When the crew got to central Iowa they ran out of rails; while they were waiting for supplies Philip (and some other Irish immigrants) bought land around Ogden, Iowa, in Beaver Township. That area became known as "Irish Lane" because of all the Irish immigrants. Shortly after settling there, his father, Patrick, came to join him.
...Philip met another Irish gal named Bridget Fidelis Coyle or "Fi", as she was known as. They were married May 11, 1876, and six sons were born to this union, with three surviving childhood; plus they adopted an Orphan Train Rider baby from New York.
...Their children:
1. Albert J. "Shorty" Lawler, b. 3 MAR 1877 - d. 30 OCT 1935.
2. William Arthur Lawler, b. 27 OCT 1878 - d. 19 JAN 1879.
3. Francis Edward "Frank" Lawler, b. 10 JUN 1880 - d. 14 AUG 1955.
4. Philip Eugene Lawler, b. 18 FEB 1882 - d. 7 JAN 1964.
5. James Lawler, b. circa 1884 - d. 1887.
6. Thomas C. Lawler, b. July 1888 - d. 11 FEB 1889.
