Mass of Christian Burial for Frank Scherr, 81, of Mobridge and Merritt Island, Fla., will be Saturday, May 3, 2013, 1 p.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mobridge.
Burial follows at Greenwood Cemetery, Mobridge.

Frank passed away April 27, 2014, in Merritt Island.
Frank was born in Mobridge on July 8, 1932. He was one of four children born to Frank and Mary Scherr. As a child he lived in Firesteel, moving to Mobridge in 1942. He graduated from Mobridge High School in 1950 and was then employed by the Milwaukee Road as a telegrapher, depot agent and an agent operator. He was married to Stella Marie Schneider in 1952. Four children were born to them: Catherine Ann Scherr Walker, Francis Michael Scherr, John Richard Scherr and Jeffrey David Scherr. Frankie was widowed in 1958 and married Janette Stroh in 1959. They lived in Trail City until 1960 when they moved to Mobridge, where they lived until 1996. Six children were born to this union: Roberta Scherr Whitmore, James Edwin Scherr, William Harold Scherr, Elizabeth Marie Scherr Archambault, Nicholas Andrew Scherr and Jean Mary Scherr Chagnon.
Frank was blessed with 20 grandchildren: Donovan Walker, Amy Walker Aiken, Alison Walker Ruoff, Michael Walker, Miranda Scherr, Christopher Scherr, Cassandra Scherr, Ashley Archambault, Alexandra Scherr, Ariel Scherr, William Scherr, Austin Scherr, Evan Scherr, Brycen Scherr, Grace Thompson, Braden Matjek, Lydia Scherr, Cole Chagnon, Warren Whitmore and Kylie Thompson. He also had nine great-grandchildren: Justice, Riley, Donovan and Reese Walker, Savanah Walker, Jazmine Aiken, Isabella and Ava Ruoff, Porter Scherr and Bruce Archambault.
Frankie played football in high school and amateur baseball for Mobridge. He loved horses and was a cowboy who competed in steer wrestling and calf roping for many years. He was very proud of his personal bests of 4.4 seconds in steer wrestling and 10 seconds flat in calf roping. He also enjoyed playing poker and was by all accounts quite successful. He owned a haying business and then a trucking company with his son, Nick, for most of his working life. Near the end of his career, Frank also owned and operated Bridge City Liquors.
He moved to Florida in 1998. He learned to golf at the age of 62 and competed with the same passion that he rodeoed and played poker. Frankie worked on a golf course for a number of years – free golf – and got valuable experience for the last job he held with Davis Martin running mowers.

Frank wanted to be remembered for loving children and his pets. Late in his life he delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and a staunch supporter of the Miami Heat. He loved country music, western movies and television programs. A highlight of his summers in South Dakota was throwing dice with his pals and reminiscing about old times.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Stella, brother Richard, sister Madelyn Mulloy, his children Michael and Elizabeth (Scherr) Archambault, and granddaughter Miranda Scherr.
