Joseph Walter “J.W.” Coil, 89 of Benton City, passed away at 11:46 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015 at Golden Living Center-Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville.

A visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Arnold Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park at a later date.

J.W. was born Sept. 5, 1925 in Shamrock, the son of Pearl and Iva (Hayes) Coil. On Feb. 18, 1945 at the First Christian Church in Mexico, he married Frances LaVern Rodgers. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2010.

Mr. Coil was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII. He was a member of the Benton City Christian Church and had retired from Audrain Co-op in Thompson. Horses were his hobby.

Survivors include his son, Kenny (Becky) Coil of Benton City; three granddaughters, Dawn Moore of Quincy, Illinois, Lybbye Coil of Benton City and JoEllen (Aaron) Windmann of Rush Hill; and six great-grandchildren.


Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. Both may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
