A long-time resident of Ravenna, Ohio, she was the wife of Martin Gretzinger -- a local tanner. Source: Excerpt of Louis G.Schwitzer Biography, "A Portrait and Biological Record of Portage and Summit Counties, Ohio, V2, A.W. Bowen & Co., 1898, pg. 513.

Lena (Goeppinger) Gretzinger's family can be traced though her parents, Johannes Sigmund and Ursula Katheria (Ammer) Goeppinger. She had 8 siblings, 7 brothers and 1 sister. Friedrich (1828-1912, FAGM# 32466230), Louis (1829-1922, FAGM# 24074863), Johann, Jr. (1830-1893), Maria (1832-1894, FAGM# 57486841), Christian (1837-1920), Gottleb or "Caleb" (1839-1863), Henry (1843-1921, FAGM# 23149933), and Carl (1848-1937).

Lena's father Sigmund's parents were Jakob Friedrich and Anna Maria (Reicherter) Goeppinger. Lena's great-grandparents were Johann Sebastian (1750- ?) and Agatha Maria (Schaal) Goeppinger.

Sigmund's sister, Maria Magdalena Goeppinger (1811-1889, FAGM# 135911011), married Justus Jakob Goeppinger (1810-1887, FAGM# 135910701) son of Johann Christaph and Anna Barbara (Raach) Goeppinger, and grandson of Jakob Friedrich and Anna Maria (Reicherter) Goeppinger.

Johann Christaph (1772-1835) and Jakob Friedrich (1776-1862) Goeppinger were brothers. Both were born in Reutlingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Justus Jakob and Maria Magdalena had a family of 8 children (4 boys, 4 girls) raised in Newton Township, Trumbull County, Ohio. One of their sons, Christopher Frederick, also a tanner, bought the tannery in Ravenna, Portage County, Ohio from his cousin Lena's husband, Martin Gretzinger.

I have written a lengthy history piece on Justus Jakob at his Find-A-Grave Memorial #135910701 that traces Johann Christaph's side of the Goeppinger family.
