Marie Massad Aboussie, 98, passed away on Christmas Day in her home in Austin, Texas. Born February 2, 1916, in Drumright, OK. to Lebanese immigrant parents, Marie moved to Wichita Falls in 1948 when she married Mitchell J. Aboussie.

As owner of the Youth Colony in Parker Square for more than 30 years, Marie ran her business and raised her three children, Phillip, Karen, and Ronnie, by herself after Mitchell died in 1962. She was very active in All Saints Episcopal Church as one of the founders, serving on the vestry and treasurer of the Altar Guild for many years.

Marie moved to Austin in 2001 to be near her children and grandchildren. It was a joy for her and her family to be together for the past 13 years. With her fun-loving personality and ever-positive attitude, Marie made the best of any and every situation. Her love of cooking and football was legendary. Her home was always filled with wonderful aromas and great food. She enjoyed any outing and was thrilled to attend several UT games in the past few years. Marie is survived by her son, Philip, and daughter, Karen Aboussie of Austin; two granddaughters, Alaina Aboussie-Thompson and husband Jeff of Houston and Alexandra Aboussie of Austin; her sister-in-law, Marge Aboussie of Wichita Falls, and countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Mitchell; son, Ronnie; her parents, Melia & MK Massad; her five sisters and one brother. Two Memorial Services will be held in her honor: the first on Saturday, January 3, 2 p.m. at All Saints Church, 2606 Southwest Parkway, Wichita Falls; followed by a service in Austin on Tuesday, January 6, 3 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 2128 Barton Hills Drive.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her honor to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Scholarship Fund or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
