Elizabeth married Clifford Brickles in 1934 in Logan, W. Va. It wasn't exactly a "shotgun wedding", but her family always enjoyed hearing the story of how they eloped, and the young newlyweds had to hide out for a time from her daddy and brothers who were not far behind them with their shotguns. Within the next 13 years they were blessed with five children.
In 1952, Clifford and Elizabeth loaded up a gray Dodge with their five children and personal belongings. They left their home in West Virginia and traveled some 2,500 miles to Butte. Most of Elizabeth's siblings were either already in Butte or soon followed. Unfortunately, shortly after moving to Butte, Clifford was killed in an accident at the Kelley Mine; that sad day was Sept. 10, 1955. He was only 42 and lived to enjoy only one of his 20 grand- children, most of who were born in Butte.
Elizabeth was remarried in 1958 to Earl Tidrick. He didn't have any children, but Elizabeth's children thought highly of him, recalling that he was a kind man who made a wonderful stepfather and grandfather. Earl died in his sleep in 1963.
Elizabeth continued to reside in Butte, the city she loved so much, until 1977, when the mining industry started to decline and she moved with the family to Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. Thereafter, in 1986, she once again followed her "mining family" to Absarokee, where family, friends, and neighbors fondly referred to her as "Grandma Liz." Elizabeth is now resting next to Clifford in Mountain View Cemetery in her "Beautiful Butte" to which she longed to return.
