The son of Charles H. and Jennie (Bryan) Akers, his birth was announced in "The Arizona Republican" on 29 Oct 1897:

"The following self explanatory communication was left at The Republican office last night, “Henry Harlow Akers yelled ‘I am yours for McKinley’ for the first time at 9:35 p.m., October 28, A.D., 1897. The mother and Henry Harlow are doing well. He is a twelve pounder, a regular ‘cracker jack.’”

He attended the University of Michigan Law School, became an attorney and was Sec. & Treas. of the "Arizona Gazette in 1925, the year he married Pearl Adams of S. Africa. (His father Charles had owned the newspaper for a time, after a term as Secretary of the Territory of Arizona.)

The following year they had a son, Charles Harlow Akers.

H. Harlow Akers was elected as a Democrat to the Arizona State Senate from Maricopa County in 1926 and he served in the 8th Legislature 1st Regular Session through the 8th Legislature 6th Special Session from 1927 through 1928.

In later years he was for a time Wickenburg's City Attorney, and had in 1932 run for the U.S. Senate and in 1933 for the U.S. Congress, losing both elections.
