James Marshal Tomlinson ... family called him Marshall and his friends called him Jim ... was born in Optima,OK in 1909. He stayed in OK until his 30's then moved to the Bay area in California. He moved to TX later in life.

He was a Pile Driver and helped build the Oakland Bay Bridge (among others) and drilled oil wells in Saudi Arabia.

He was widowed with two small daughters when his young wife Jewell (my grandmother) died on the operating table at age 21 in Caddo, OK in 1934.

After he moved to California, he married Vera (my Nanny & PawPaw) as she was the grandmother I knew and loved. Of course, she raised my mother and her sister and then together they had one more daughter. All but my mother are still living so I won't mention names here.

After Vera passed, he moved to Texas and married Lucille when he was in his 50's and then Oni in his 70's!

He was a Tall Slim Jim and a caregiver to all his wives. He was so funny and witty and always full of energy. He died hitting his head on a tree limb racing around on his John Deer riding mower. He would have wanted to go that way. He was 83 and still zipping around with good health.

He always lived so far from me and I wish I could have spent more time with him. I loved him so much and miss him dearly.
