Genevieve M. (Ball) Age 91, and longtime resident of Horseheads, passed away after a brief illness Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira. Born Nov. 12, 1912 in Tunkhannock, PA, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Effie (Seiglin) Ball, Genevieve is survived by her husband, Rudy with whom they have celebrated 72 years together, 69 years in holy matrimony, since Jan. 12, 1936. Also surviving are their daughter, Marcie A. Baer of Gambrills, MD; niece, Connie Ray Mann of Guilderland, NY; and many close and caring friends and neighbors. Genevieve was predeceased by her sisters, Doris Baer, Leona Burton, Helen Baker; brother, Allan Ball; sister-in-law, Ruth Masters and brothers-in-law, Harry and George Baer. A member of the First United Methodist Church in Horseheads, she was also a member of the Electa Circle and in her earlier years was active as a Sunday school teacher and involved in various committees within the church. Genevieve was a member of Horseheads Chapter #423 O.E.S and past matron there in 1943. Throughout her career, Genevieve was employed as an office manager at Empire Foods in Elmira and until her retirement, along with her husband, Rudy, owned and operated Rudy Baer's Corner in Hanover Square. She was an active and founding member of Horseheads Historical Society and also a member of the Horseheads Women's Club. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, Inc., 413 So. Main St., Horseheads, on Sat., Sept. 25th, from 6-8:00 p.m. and again on Sunday, Sept. 26th, from 2-4:00 and 7-9:00 p.m. Her service will be celebrated in the First United Methodist Church, 1034 W. Broad St., Horseheads, NY, on Monday, Sept. 27th, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Robert O. Sherburne officiating. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads. Those wishing to express their sympathy may do so with memorials to Horseheads Historical Society, PO Box 194, Horseheads, NY 14845, or the First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 1034 W. Broad St., Horseheads, NY 14845. NOTICE: Officers and member of Horseheads Chapter #423 O.E.S will gather at the funeral home on Saturday evening to conduct a memorial service for their departed sister, signed, Betty Bennett, Matron.
