Ulysses Grant Johnson was born near Robison, Illinois, August 20, 1866 and departed this life at the age of 85 years on May 1, 1952 at 11:00 a.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eliza Arnold at Forsyth, Missouri.
He was one of seven children of the Rev. Cornelius and Eliza Johnson who moved from Illinois to Taney County in 1873 and settled at the present location of the Johnson School House.
He was married to Martha Ann Gardner on August 16, 1885. She preceded him in death on May 23, 1928. To this union was born eleven children, five of whom have preceded him in death. Those surviving are Mrs. Eliza Arnold, Forsyth, Missouri; Jessie Johnson, West Hartford, Conneticut; Mrs. Cora Parker and Mrs. Esther Carmichael of Kansas City, Missouri: Mrs. Edna Talmadge, Belleview, Missouri and Edwin G. Johnson, Forsyth, Missouri. All the children were present for the last rites. He was married to Mrs. Lou Roberts on January 31, 1934 who survives him.
He is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
He was converted at the age of 16 to Christianity and began preaching at 17 years of age. He continued preaching 69 years. He preached his last sermon on October 14, 1951 in the last of the many churches he helped to organize at Taneyville, Missouri. He was Moderator of the White River Association about 54 years.
