James Montpas, long time Temple City attorney, was the son of Emile Montpas and Clara Le Blanc. He was born in Crosby, Minnesota, raised in Flint, Michigan and was the 12th of 13 children.
In World War II, he served in Europe in the Army Cactus Division as an automatic rifleman. He was seriously wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart.
After his recovery he came to California to study law. While at school he met and later married Anita Buscaglia. They had 6 children who grew up in Arcadia.
James was a successful attorney who maintained his office in Temple City until his retirement. He believed in giving back to the community and became a member and later president of the Kiwanis Club (Rosemead) contributing to numerous service activities and very memorable family entertainment nights. He was a member of Holy Angels Church and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society, and the Order of the Alhambra.
His wife, children and grandchildren are grateful for his generosity, thoughtfulness, helpfulness, and for many years of wonderful memories he has given them to cherish.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anita; children, James, Deborah (Brian), Mark, Nancy (Dave), Tom (Kori), and Angela; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; his brother, Jean and countless loved ones and dear friends.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Angels Church in Arcadia on Friday, December 19 at 10:00 a.m. Private Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements made through Cabot and Sons.
