Kuykendall Sept 6, 1927 - Dec 26, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY -
He was a giant among men. Respected and loved by everyone who ever knew him. The second of six children, he grew up on a small farm in Caddo County, Oklahoma in the middle of the dust bowl and during the depression. At 15, he left home with only two dollars he had borrowed and the clothes on his back. He was not unhappy. He left because he wanted to find a better way to help his family survive those difficult times.

He hitchhiked to Oklahoma City and answered an ad to sell magazines. Despite only having an eighth grade education, he became the most successful salesman with publishing companies, representing magazines such as Saturday Evening Post, Colliers, Women’ s Home Companion and Redbook. In the late '60s, he and his brother formed their own company and became one of the largest magazine circulation companies in the United States. He trained thousands of men to sell, many of whom said later it was the most valuable gift they'd ever been given.

He is remembered for his sweetness, his kindness and his tenderness of spirit. His loss will be irreplaceable, but his love and generosity will live in our hearts forever. He lived a beautiful life, a magnificent one to be celebrated. He lived long and he lived well. A peaceful exit to a prosperous existence… one bountiful in family, friends and love… what more can you ask for.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kay Kuykendall, son, Halbert Kuykendall Jr. & wife Deby of Edmond; son, Terry Kuykendall & wife Claudia of Owasso; daughter, Vicki Brock & husband Mike of OKC; daughter, Leslie Kuykendall of OKC; step-son, David Padgett of Houston, TX; step-son, Jason Padgett & wife Shani of OKC; brother Hershall Kuykendall and wife Carole of OKC; three sisters, Jaunita Handke of Minco, OK; Verna Overton and husband Bill of Minco; Valta Kirkegard and husband Leroy. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Stephanie Kuykendall, Kimberly Kuykendall, Angie Kuykendall, Kelly Lunsford, Tracy Black, Aubrey Kuykendall, Boston Brock, Madison Edwards, Cole Kuykendall, H.G. Kuykendall, Emma Padgett, Elle Padgett, and Farrah Northcutt; and three great-grandchildren, Elijah Belcher, River Black, and Cruise Black.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charlie Fox & Alta Kuykendall; two brothers, Johnnie Ray and Harold Bennet Kuykendall & his Grandson Adam Halbert Kuykendall.

Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at All Souls’ Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
