George Richard Winfield was born January 8, 1933 in Davenport, a son of Anslem and Seda (Farrell) Winfield. He graduated from the former Davenport High School.
On October 2, 1954 George was united in marriage at Sacred Heart Cathedral to Joan Marie Buckley. They were blessed to have shared over 60 years of marriage.
He was proud to have served our country in the Korean War, serving with the US Army. A high point of his life was a recent trip as a guest on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC.
George retired from ALCOA, and then went on to a career with the federal government. He retired as a military policeman for the Rock Island Arsenal after many years of service.
He left a wonderful legacy; his family will especially remember him for his strong work ethic. In his spare time he enjoyed chopping wood and collecting rents.
Memorials are suggested to the Blue Grass American Legion or the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty-years, Joan, and children and their spouses, Connie Jo (Dale) Toyne, Durant, Kathy Winfield, Rockford, IL, Ken (Susan) Winfield, Davenport, Donna Winfield, Dallas, TX, Jerry (Virginia) Winfield, Davenport, Susan (Eric) Haugen, Ocoee, FL, Vikki Winfield, San Francisco, CA, and Cara Winfield, Madrid, Spain; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sisters, Clarissa Fowler, and Dorothy Holst, both of Davenport, Lenora Buckley, Princeton, IA; and a brother, Bob (Jan) Winfield, Blue Grass.
