Charles Edgar Treas, 88, Died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Home Surrounded by His Family.

A Celebration of His Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 27, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Semmes and Rev. Ann Kelly Officiating.
A Graveside Service will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, MS.

The Visitation will be held Prior to the Service in the Fellowship Hall of the Church from 12:00 Noon until Service Time.

Born in Aberdeen, Mississippi on September 11, 1926.

Charles was a Graduate of Mississippi State University, Receiving his BA and Masters in Business Administration.

He then took over his Father’s Business, Aberdeen Lumber Company.

It was during this period of time that he was Introduced to a Coed at Mississippi State University for Women, Sue Garrett of Booneville, Mississippi, who would become the Love of His Life and Wife for the next 61 Plus Years.

In 1961 Charles made the Decision to attend the University of Alabama where he Earned a Doctor of Philosophy Degree and subsequently accepted a Position at the University of Mississippi in 1966 where he sServed as a Professor of Marketing in the School of Business until he Retired in 1990.

Dr. Treas Served in the U. S. Army in World War II and Presided as the Commander of the American Legion Post 55 in Oxford.

In 1967, he Organized and became a Charter mMember of the Oxford Chapter of the National Exchange Club.
He Served as President of the Mississippi District Exchange Clubs, and received the National President’s Award (1971-72).

He also Served as President of the Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs and the Friends of the University Museum.

He Served for over 20 Years on the Lafayette-Oxford-University Fourth of July Committee, and in Recognition of his work on Behalf of the Oxford-University Community, he was Presented with the Oxford Distinguished Service Award for Community Service.

As a Charter Member, and having Served Two Terms as President of the Mississippi Poetry Society (1991-1993), Dr. Treas was named “Poet of the Year” in 2004.
Since Boyhood, Dr. Treas Loved Reading, Writing Poetry, Music, Photography, and Film Making.

He began Singing in his Church Choir at the Age of 15 and was a Devoted Choir Member of his Church until 2008.

He was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church, where he was very Active, and Enjoyed Travel and spending Special Time with his Wife and three Daughters and their Families.

Known by many as a True Scholar, a Humanitarian, a Pillar of his Church and Community, and a Loving and Gentle Husband and Father, he will be Greatly Missed.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Charles Treas and Mildred Bell Treas; his Sister, June Treas Strickland; and his Nephew, Paul Brice.

He is survived by his Wife, Sue Garrett Treas of Oxford, MS; three Daughters, Lynn Gray Treas of Oxford, MS; Susan Treas Ewing and Husband, Malcolm of Jackson, MS; and Frances Treas Almengual and Husband, Diego of Ridgeland, MS; three Grandchildren, Scott Everett Hux of Brandon, MS; Malcolm Tyler Ewing and Mallory Gayden Ewing, both of Jackson, MS.

Memorials in Dr. Treas Memory may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 924 Van Buren Avenue, Oxford, MS 38655; or The Pantry, 713 Molly Barr Road, Oxford, MS 38655.

The Family Wishes To Express Sincere Gratitude to Camellia Hospice Services For Their Gentle And Loving Care For Charles Over The Last Thirty Five Days.

In Honor Of Mr. Treas’ Service To This Country The Flag Of The United States Army Will Be Flown At Waller Funeral Home.
