Irene Brackmann, age 90 of McHenry passed away at her home on Tuesday, December 23, 2014.
She was born on June 14, 1924, in Addison, Illinois, the daughter of Otto and Helene (Plass) Backhaus. On May 14, 1949 she married Edward Brackmann at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Addison.
Mrs. Brackmann was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in McHenry. She was employed at Mr. Don's Cleaners for 25 years and enjoyed many activities with her co-workers. She also loved going to her grandchildren's sports games.
Irene is survived by her children, Marlene (Chris) Jungmann and Phyllis Womack all of McHenry. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Christiana (Jonas Troka) Jungmann, Edward (Kate) Jungmann, and Carl Jungmann. She also leaves her great-grandchildren; Jesse, Sean, and Landon. Surviving in-laws are Lorriane Backhaus, Jan Brackmann, Marge Brackmann, Luella Manggaard, and William Brackmann. Also many nieces and nephews survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Brackmann; her parents; one brother, Fremont Backhaus; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Art and Evelyn Semeyn, Ruth Brackmann, Herb and Loraine Vierow, Richard Brackmann, Robert Brackmann, and Jim Manggaard.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 27, 2014, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home & Crematory, 591 Ridgeview Dr. McHenry. The Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be Monday, December 29th, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Elm Lawn Memorial Park 401 E. Lake St. Elmhurst, IL family and friends to meet at the cemetery office.
