Virgie Maxine Kumbier, daughter of George Virgil and Stella Jane Kelly Burd, was born November 17, 1912, near Long Lane, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, April 14, 2006, in Northridge Place, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-three years, four months, and twenty-seven days.
On April 1, 1943, she was united in marriage to Rudolph A. Kumbier, and to this union one son was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rudolph, on June 11, 1996; two brothers, Balcom and Finis Burd; and a sister, Merle Howe.
Maxine is survived by a son, Virgil R. Kumbier, of Long Lane, Missouri; a brother, Kelly Burd, and his wife, Maxine, of Longmont, Colorado; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Long Lane community. After graduating high school, she attended college and earned her degree in education. She then began a career as an elementary school teacher and taught in the Mountain View Schools for several years. After she and Rudolph were married, they made their home in Springfield for thirty-five years, and then retired to the family farm near Long Lane.
Maxine made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a member of First Christian Church in Lebanon.
She devoted her life to caring for her husband, her son, Virgil, and others in her family. She also loved to visit with her family and friends.
Maxine will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of her family and many friends. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for all those that knew and loved her.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Lebanon. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery, near Long Lane. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
