James D Barcroft married Mary Jane Tunnell, a sister of Jim Williams. To this union, one child was born which died in infancy.

James D. Barcroft married Amelia Jane Watson on 21 May 1868. Her father, Jonathan Watson, lived on an adjoining farm and they were married within half a mile of the place where he lived and died. To this union, two sons and six daughters were born.

Services for James D. Barcroft were held in the Indian Creek Church and conducted by Rev. Lester, the pastor. "Uncle Jim" as he was commonly known, died at his home, six miles east of Comanche on Friday. James D. Barcroft is one of Comanche County's earliest settlers. He was a member of the first Grand Jury in Comanche County. He moved to the county with his parents in 1854. He hauled freight for the first business house built in Comanche County. He pre-empted land six miles east of Comanche. He lived continuously here with the exception of two years when he lived in Hasse. In this home, he raised eight children.

Survived by his wife; children, Mrs. Maggie Cook, Conrad Bancroft, Martin B. Barcroft, Lula Waldrop, Dora Davenport, Willie Reveal, Lillie Weathersby, Mary Henderson; 35 grandchildren; one brother, D.A. Barcroft; one sister, Mrs. D.P. Pinkard. (Comanche Chief/April 18, 1924/front page)
