INQUEST. An inquest was held at Hurford Road on Sunday, before Mr T. Hutchison S.M. concerning the death of Annie Lucy Chant, aged 27, wife of Charles D. Chant, who died in childbirth on Friday. The evidence showed that the deceased was confined at 10.20am on Friday and was attended by Mrs Mary Ann Bailey a professional nurse. She took a bad turn and despite all efforts succumbed before the arrival of Dr. Home. On the medical testimony the jury found that death had resulted from heart failure due to the shock. It was added that no blame was attached to anyone. The child, we learn, is well and thriving. Great sympathy is felt for Mr Chant in his sudden bereavement. Source: Taranaki Herald (7 August 1906).
