Ralph Franklin Anderson, 67, of Mars Hill, N.C. passed away peacefully at home Sunday, July 27, 2008, after a 14 month battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was a lifelong resident of Mars Hill and upon diagnosis of cancer retired as the last dairy farmer in Madison County. He was the son of the late Ralph and Mary Carter Anderson. He was a 1959 graduate of Mars Hill High School. After attending Mars Hill College and graduating from N.C State University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, he returned home to operate the family dairy business. In addition to being one of the longest tenured members of Mars Hill Baptist Church, he served on numerous agricultural and civic boards and committees: N.C. Dairy Foundation Committee, W.N.C.D.H.I.A. Board of Directors, F.C.X. / Southern States Advisory Committee, W.N.C. Milk Producers Board of Directors, Carolina-Virginia Milk Producers Association Board of Directors, Madison County Farmland Preservation Committee (Chairman), Madison County Board of Education, Mars Hill Board of Aldermen, and Mars Hill Planning and Zoning Board. Franklin was a loving husband and father, proud grandfather, and devoted steward of the earth. His love of the land was matched only by his work ethic and business sense.

In addition to his wife, Glenda White Anderson, he was survived by a son, Bruce F. Anderson of Mars Hill; daughters, Dr. Gail A. and husband, Jeff Richardson, of Weaverville, Larae A. and husband, Larry Davis, of Mars Hill; grandchildren, Hailey L. Davis, Carter W. Burial was in Mars Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Duckett, Eddie Fox, Jeremy Fox, Paul Briggs, Gary Phillips, Steven Davis, Ted Roberts, Darrell Carter and Matthew Cody.

The family wishes to thank Mary Ashe, RN and Dr. John Langlois of Care Partners Hospice, Cancer Care of W.N.C. (Dr. C. Chay) and St. Joseph campus 10th floor oncology nursing staff for their care and compassion. Blue Ridge Funeral Service assisted the family.
