When Adam Alois Gutting was born on the 18th of August, 1866, in Niederkirchen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, his father, Johann Daniel Gutting, was 36 and his mother, Katherine (Rau), was 28. His godparents were Adam Rau and wife, Elizabeth.

He married Caroline Gutting and they had two children together. He then married Margaret A Lenard about 1903. He died on April 8, 1913, in Detroit, Michigan, at the age of 47, and was buried in Notre Dame, Indiana.

GUTTING - April 8, 1913, at his home, 283 Euclid east, Adam, beloved husband of Margarette Gutting and father of Lawrence and Carl Gutting, aged 46 years. Funeral services Thursday at 7:30 p.m., leaving by the G. T. R. at 10 p.m. Services at St. Patrick's church, South Bend, Ind., Friday at 9 a.m. Notice of funeral later.
