Of Cape Girardeau, Missouri died Friday, December 19, 2014 at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born May 15, 1925 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Vera Murphy.
Victor enlisted in the U.S Navy in early 1941. He was a veteran of WW II serving as a Navy Corpsman. He was honorably discharged as a Pharmacist Mate First Class, USN, October, 1947.
He was a licensed optician, starting his career with Rhea Optical in Cape Girardeau, moving to Pensacola Florida, ending his career in Texas when he retired.
He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
He and Mary Louise Hurd were married 34 years ago, March 31, 1980 at Orlando, Florida. They've lived happily ever since and he often referred to her as his yellow rose. Together they shared two children, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Victor Gunn enjoyed a long fulfilling life loving his country almost as much as his family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Even at 89 he would get on the floor and play with them. Victor had a kind word for everybody and would always greet you with a smile and a bear hug.
When he moved back to the Cape Girardeau area he enjoyed playing golf with his son and friends. Often he could be seen riding around town on his white scooter and was affectionately referred to as "ancient rider" by the family. Most recently he enjoyed spending time with his son at the firearms range and drinking coffee together at Barnes and Noble Cafe.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Gunn of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; son, Victor R. (Mary V. ) Gunn of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; daughter, Terri Louise ( Donald) Greene of Germany; grandchildren, Alexia (Mark) Sander, Scott Greene, Jacob (Kirstie) Greene and Meredith (Trey) Welch; great grandchildren, Grady, Gavin, Jacob, Jr., Zachery and Jackson; uncle, Fred R. Kraft of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
