She was a lifelong resident of Guthrie and a fixture in the community. She married Judge William T. Hirschi. Together they had three children, daughters Barbara and Emilie and their son Bruce. Maudie was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Guthrie, OK. She was an avid gardener and she kept her family supplied with its produce and filled her home with the beauty of flowers.
Maudie is best known for her contribution to the welfare of children in Logan County. In 1977 she founded Logan County Youth Emergency Services to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children in extreme need. In March of 1981, she opened the doors of the thrift store 'Maudie's Closet' to provide funds for the operation of the fledgling youth shelter. Her family recalls the laundering and pressing of countless articles of clothing for sale in the store. Her legacy lives on as the Maudie Hirschi Children's Shelter under the care of Logan Community Services.
Her husband William T. Hirschi precedes Maudie in death, as does her daughter Barbara Hayes of Guthrie and a grandson Garrett Carpenter. She is survived by her daughter Emilie Moad of Guthrie and son Bruce Hirschi of Sanger, Texas, ten grandchildren, nine great -grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Maudie's wishes no services will be held, rather, her family will gather privately to honor a life well lived.
