Obituary
Published 2 August 1917
Mrs. F. M. Alton
Julia Ann Wolfe, daughter of F. M. and Martha Jane Wolfe, was born in Knox County, Indiana, in 1844, and died at her home in Little River, Kansas, July 27, 1917; aged 72 years, 9 months and 11 days [born on 16 November 1944].

She was united in marriage to F. M. Alton in Jasper County, Iowa, August 16, 1866, and to them were born eleven children, seven girls and four boys, nine of whom are living. One daughter died September 7, 1906, and one baby boy died in 1885.

The family moved from Iowa to Kansas in the fall of 1881 and settled on a farm northeast of Little River where they resided until 1888 when they moved to Nebraska, where they resided until 1893, when her mother died and they returned to Kansas and resided with her father, caring for him until his death which occurred in 1894. She leaves to mourn her departure a husband, three sons, six daughters, twenty-nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren, two brothers, one sister, and other relatives.

Mrs. Alton was a good woman, a loving wife, a devoted mother, a kind and generous neighbor, and was ever ready, anxious and willing to extend helping hands and words of sympathy to suffering humanity. Early in life she gave her heart to God and united with the [illegible] of which she was a member when called to receive her eternal reward. One of her great, and successful, aims in life was to help others. She will not only be missed in the home, but in her death, the community loses one who was most highly respected.
