JOSEPH ABDO, SR. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at the Native American Church, Greenwood, for Joseph Nave Abdo, Sr., 71. Tony Garcia, Sr., officiated. Pallbearers were Joe "Nave" Abdo, Jr., Larry Abdo, Sr., Robert Abdo, Sr., Alan Abdo, Sr., Bill Croysdill, Larry Abdo, Jr., Lorenzo Dion, Jr., Adrian Arrow, Todd Roan Eagle, Jr., and Casper Saunsoci. His family, friends and relatives of the Native American Church were honorary pallbearers. Interment was at the Native American Church Cemetery, Greenwood. Joe was born to Joseph N. Abdo and Lorraine Stricker on July 29, 1934, in Greenwood. He married Beaulah J. Trudell of the Native American Church in January of 1952. Joe is father to 14 children, 58 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He served and was honorably discharged from the United States Army as an airborne ranger. He dedicated the majority of his life to God and his church, the Native American Church, as a roadman and elder. He was a direct descendant of Chief Smutty Bear of the Ihanktonwan people and was considered by many families of his clan as chief of the Tiospaye. Throughout his life and work in his church, he became well-known throughout the Four Directions of the land as a brother, friend and relative. Joe died January 7, 2006.
