AGED MAN DROPS DEAD AT HIS WORK
-----
J.B. HOAG SUDDENLY DIES AT THE FREIGHT DEPOT WHILE SWEEPING
------
CORONER INVESTIGATES AND DECIDES IT IS A CASE OF HEART FAILURE
-------
Deceased is Survived by His Wife and Three Sisters Who Live in the
Hoag Funeral on Sunday.
The funeral of Mr. J.B. Hoag will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the residence on Second avenue between Ninth and Tenth streets. Rev. Bishop of the Methodist church will conduct the services and the interment will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
He usually went to the freight depot in the morning about five-thirty and built fires and swept out and then worked the remained of the day along with the other men. He had built two fires, had sprinkled sweeping compound on the floors and after making a couple of strokes with his broom or floor brush he had apparently dropped to the floor on his back with his arms spread out. Coroner King was summoned but, after making a careful investigation, he decided that an inquest was unnecessary for over nine dollars were found in the dead man's pockets and he showed no signs of violence.
Mr. Hoag was seventy-one years of age the tenth of this month. He was born in New York and had lived here 17 or 18 years and is survived by his wife and three sisters, two of whom live in Cleveland, Ohio, and one in Johnstown, Tennessee. The remains were taken to Pingrey's Undertaking parlors and from there to his home on Second avenue, between Ninth and Tenth streets. The funeral arrangements have not been made as yet.
