Abraham Grooms
Adams County's oldest resident, Abraham Grooms, 104 years old passed away at the County Home, near West Union. The final summons April 4th following a lingering illness.
Mr. Grooms' mother, Polly Shanks Grooms, wife of Zachariah Grooms, lived to be 108 years of age.
Abraham Grooms was born near West Union but spent most of his life in the western part of Pike County. His wife was Massie Satterfield, a native of Pike County, who died 14 years ago.
Surviving are four sons, Robert of Locust Grove; Bird of West Union; Noah of Wilmington; and Joseph of Newark and two daughters; Mrs Rebecca McCoy, of Xenia; and Mrs Blanche Stansburry of Peebles.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Smith Hill Church in Pike County. Burial was in the Smith Hill Cemetery.
