HELEN WESTENDORF Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 7, 2005, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Geddes, for Helen Louise Westendorf, 81, Armour. Fr. Paul Josten officiated. Casket bearers were Chad Baune, Art Westendorf, Ryan Williams, Todd Baune, Allan Westendorf, and James Olson Honorary casket bearers were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and special friends. Interment was at St. Ann's Cemetery, Geddes. Arrangements were by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Geddes. Helen was born on Feb. 23, 1924, in Bonesteel to Henry and Mary Louise (Turgeon) Lunn. She graduated from St. Charles High School, St. Charles, then from Southern State Teachers College, Springfield. She taught at several country schools in Gregory County. Helen married Alvin Westendorf on June 23, 1947, in Herrick. She worked at Lake Andes Health Care Center, Lake Andes, in the early 1970s. They farmed and ranched in the Geddes area until they retired and moved into Geddes in 1994. Alvin died on May 2, 1997. Helen was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and Altar Society, Geddes, Community Club and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed history, genealogy, collecting angels, reading, spending time with her grandchildren and helping others. She died on January 3, 2006, at Beverly Health Care Center, Armour. She is survived by two sons, Ray Westendorf and wife, Betty, Lake Andes, and Gary Westendorf and wife, Rhonda, Harrisburg; four daughters: Pat Waters and husband, Dr. Gary, Noxon, MT; Dee Williams and husband, Jack, Lombard, IL; Sue Kelly and husband, Dave, Sunbury, OH; and Shirley Hedges and husband, Rick, Columbus, OH; three sisters: Marie Arnoldy, Kennebec; Dorothy Roemeling, Sioux Falls; and Henrietta Krier and husband, Walt, Herrick; 16 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Rosemary, and an infant grandson.
