She was born Dec. 13, 1954, in Elkhart, to the late John E. Arter and Martha (Hall) Arter Salisbury, who survives her in Elkhart.
She married Kevin Solmos in Elkhart in 2011. He survives at home.
Also surviving are her daughters, Sheryl (Andy) Welty of Fort Wayne, Tiffany Knight of Bluffton and Holly (Fritz) Bickel of Huntington; sons John D. Starkey and Jeffery (Heather) Bolding, both of Mishawaka, and Jordan (Ashley) Bolding of Huntington; brother John Jr. (Janice) Arter of Elkhart; stepfather Jack Salisbury of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; one niece; former spouses John D. Starkey of Elkhart and Jeffery Bolding of Bluffton; and her beloved pal, Alley the cat.
Karen had been employed as a production worker at WoodTek Industries and Bimbo Bakery of Elkhart. She also served on the staff at the Elkhart Faith Mission, usually involving herself with cooking and meals-on-wheels. She was an avid animal lover.
