Frank D. Shepherd, 81, of McAlester, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at his home. Born Sept. 11, 1933, in Earlsboro, he was the son of Lee Fines and Ruby (Gilleland) Shepherd. He grew up in the Shawnee area until his family moved to Norman, then to Noble when he was a senior in high school. He married Donna L. Matthews on Aug. 1, 1953, and then was drafted into the United States Army. He served in the Army for two years, stationed in Germany for a while. After his honorable discharge, he and his wife settled in Norman where he worked as a construction contractor for 37 years, building some commercial property, but mainly doing residential construction He was a longtime member of Norman Builders Association. When he retired they moved to Pauls Valley until they moved to the McAlester area a year ago. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and watching Oklahoma University football. He had also performed in rodeos as a bull rider for a number of years when he was younger. Survivors include his wife, Donna Shepherd, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheree and Dean Greider, Wilmington, North Carolina, and Karen and William Pearman, of McAlester; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Frank William Dee and Robyn Shepherd, of Norman, and Joe Douglas Shepherd, Saint Petersburg, Florida; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. Robert Shepherd and Dr. V. J. Shepherd, and one sister, Wanda Blunck. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dan Shepherd, and a sister, Nancy Cope. Funeral services were Monday at Brumley-Mills Chapel. Burial was at Blanco Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, John A. Hardy, Robert D. L. Greider, Caleb Shepherd, Samuel Pearman, Eli Shepherd, Doug Block, Seth Hartman, Jay Stokley and Bryan Hulseberg.
