David Snider was born at Snider's Indian Camp Farm on Crooked Run near Fort Martin in 1777. His parents were Dorcas (Evans) and John Snider. His father was known for having been captured by the Indians and living with them for 10 long years.
David inherited his 100 acres on Snider's Run from his father who gave away some 1000 acres to his children. David's piece of land was one of his father's favorites and was remembered for being a spot where he had camped while on the run with the Indians.
David married Elizabeth Cotton, daughter of Revolutionary veteran James Cotton. They had 10 children, including their third son, the prosperous Colonel Samuel B. Snider. David was a well liked and popular man. He build Snider's Temple with his youngest son Eugenious who inherited his house when he died. David was a farmer, road builder, land surveyor who established the town of Snidersville but with David's death so came the death of the town name. David died in 1851 and was buried behind his house on a hill beyond a little pond. The graves of his son Joseph and Eugenious can also be found there but most of the stones are now gone. The grave of Elizabeth, his wife of 50 years, cannot be found but it must certainly be there. Her grave is probably in the place of the little stone in plot C-3 next to him.
