Grant was a lifelong resident of Macon and an honor graduate from Tatnall Square Academy. He was an electrical engineering and physics major at Mercer University. He was named to the Dean's List and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, serving as pledge class president. He was a cheerleader and served on the Student Government Association. He was a volunteer in the community and at the Museum of Art and Sciences. He was active in the productions at the Macon Little Theatre where he served on the Board of of Directors. He was a member of Highland Hills Baptist Church.
