Born December 24, 1928, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Clifton Edgar and Ruth Elizabeth Reynolds Spear.
He was a former mayor of Commerce, graduate of Georgia Bankers School, member of the board of directors of Cherokee Life Insurance Company, member of Toccoa Lions Club, member of the Toccoa Elks Lodge, former member of the Commerce Kiwanis Club, and member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce.
He was in banking for 35 years in Toccoa, Ft. Oglethorpe, and Commerce, and was former owner of Northeastern Bank (now the Commerce branch of Community Bank & Trust), and owner of Deer Trail Country Club. Mr. Spear was preceded in death by a son, J. Nolan Spear, Jr.
Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery.
