-- Virden, Ill., May 23.-Dr. C. A. Allen, one of Virden's most prominent physicians, died this afternoon at 1:10 o'clock of glandular enlargement. He had known for the past two or three months past that death was certain and tried all possible ways known to the medical science to no avail.
-- Dr. Carlos Archie Allen was born December 18, 1866, at Lee's Summitt, Mo., and was at the time of his death aged 40 years, 5 months and 5 days. He was married to Miss Emza Webb, on March 23, 1897, at Knob Lick, Mo. Two sons were born them, Archie and Francis. Mrs. Allen died June 7, 1905.
-- After the marriage of Dr. Allen he and his bride came to Lowder, Ill., where they resided until 1900, when they removed to this city, and he formed a partnership with Dr. E. K. Lockwood, which continued about two years and one-half, when Dr. Lockwood went to Colorado with his wife, and he then formed a partnership with Dr. Morgan. When Dr. Lockwood returned to Virden he again formed a partnership with him, which continued until last fall, when Dr. Allen again dissolved partnership and built a handsome brick office on West Jackson street. He was a graduate of the Barnes Medical college, St. Louis, and was classed amonth the most success(ful) physicians and surgeons.
-- He was quite prominent in the most prominent lodges. They were: Elwood commandery No. 6 Knight Templars, at Springfield; Moolah Temple Mystic Shrine, St. Louis; both chapters of Masons at Girard and this city; Odd Fellows and the Masons of this city.
-- The funeral services will be held next Sundayafternoon at 2:30 o'clock at his late home on North Springfield street, under the charge of Elwood Commandery No. 6, Knight Templars, and the Rev. William Brandon of the M. E. church officiating.
