Josephine L. Brett-Thorp, 98, of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away Wednesday, December 10th, 2014, with daughters, Josephine, Edith and Mary, and nephew Steve by her side. She was born in Magnolia, NJ and raised in South Philadelphia throughout the 1920's.

She was the last surviving first generation American of Rosa and Giuseppe Giordano from Italy. She was a gymnast and a seamstress. Her business mind led her to Atlantic City, where she met her husband Munro and became the first woman supervisor for the restaurant White Towers. They married in the late 1930's. Josephine also founded, owned and operated the restaurant, Murphy House, in Brooklawn, NJ. She was a successful business woman for more than 55 years.

After moving to Glendora, NJ in 1951 they raised 5 children. Josie's love for the beach brought her to Strathmere, NJ in 1965 where she prided herself in walking 3 miles twice a day. She eventually sold her Glendora home and moved to the beach house year round where she thrived with the senior centers, AARP groups and continuing education opportunities. She never stopped learning or moving.

She met her second husband, John Thorp in the late 1980's. She traveled the country with AARP groups until she moved to Long Neck, DE. After being diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2001, Josephine lived out the remainder of her life under the care of her daughters and finally Cadbury Continuing Care.

Josie was preceded in death by her first husband, Munro; her son, Daniel; step-son, Patrick and her second husband, John Thorp. She is survived by her daughters, Josephine Brett, Edith Brett and Mary Brett; granddaughter, Jessica Worts-Hall; grandson, Joshua Worts, USAF and two great-grandsons, Matthew and Jackson Hall.

The mass will be held at Nelson's Funeral Services, Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE on Monday, December 15th. Call (302) 945-9000 for time. Followed by burial at New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ.
