Joseph Marcellus King went to be with the Lord December 9, 2014. Joe was born January 17, 1926, in Durham, North Carolina, to Thomas Baker King and Blanche Cook King.
He was 88 years old.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Wanda Green King, brother Thomas Baker King, Jr., and sisters, Ida Louise King, Lucy King Williford, and Helen Love King.

Joe attended school in Durham, N.C. and entered the U.S. Navy June 28, 1943 at 17 years old. He boarded the U.S. Saratoga December 1943 and was sent to the South Pacific where he participated in five engagements. He served in the Engineering Department as Gaine Rate of Petty Officer, Second Class. He was discharged at Charleston, S.C. on May 5, 1946.

He then attended tech school in Memphis, TN in 1946-1947. After tech school he attended the University of Houston in Houston, TX and graduated from the School of Architecture on August 31, 1950. The next day, September 1, 1950, he began his married life with Wanda Waldean Green.

Joe became a Master Mason, 32° Mason. He was one of the founding fathers of the Republican Party in Harris County and served as Republican Precinct Chairman in Houston for 14 years. He moved to Huntsville, Texas in 1972 starting a cattle ranch and worked as an architect at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice where he retired in 1987.

He volunteered with the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce as a step on bus guide for history of Huntsville, helped raise the funds to build the amphitheater for the Sam Houston Statue park, a founding member for the HEARTS Veterans Museum, was a member and chairman of the Timber Growers' of Walker County, and was a member and chairman of AARP-Huntsville. Joe attended Elkins Lake Baptist Church. He loved his time he had with his family and his four dogs who kept him company.

Joe is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sherry King of Longview, TX, son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Jackie King of Purdon, TX, daughter and son-in-law, Marci and Gary Yancey, and grandsons Justin and Tyler Yancey of New Waverly.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2014 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery in Huntsville, Texas.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum, 463 Texas 75, Huntsville, Texas 77320.
