There is some doubt about Jeanette's maiden name. I haven't found her mother or her on the 1920 census, but marriage record and directory listings suggest her mother was married to Alphonse DeRoost during the time her children were born in Wisconsin. Directory listings show she was separated from Alphonse in 1923 and 1924, then she's in the directory as the wife of George Brunette in 1925. On the 1930 census, her mother is married to Orrie Nichols in Texas, and her three children are listed as Jeanette Brunette, Reta Brunette, and James Brunette. James died in 1932. On the 1940 census, Jeanette and Reta are living together and their last name is Nichols.

I'm not suggesting you change her maiden name but just wanted you to know about the conflicting names. I know Jeanette was married as Jeanette Nichols. Her sister Reta, however, married under Reta Brunette. And her original Social Security application states her mother's name and George Brunette as her father. Without the 1920 census, it's difficult to say. But purely going by the dates of their mother's marriage to Alphonse DeRoost, he might be their actual father. Hopefully Ancestry will get more records online in the future. I hope I didn't give you a headache. Arvilla's last husband, Walter Snelling is in my family tree so I've been trying to make sense of it today.
