William Robert ‘Bob' Balcom, Sr., age 74, Webb City, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2014 at his home after an illness.

Bob was born August 23, 1939 in Hesperia, Michigan to the late Earl Balcom and Ruth Gurney Balcom and had lived in the Joplin area the past 24 years, moving from Michigan.

He worked for the Hesperia, Michigan school district for many years. After moving to the Joplin area, he worked for Main Street Joplin for ten years and had also worked as a security guard for Gary Hall for several years.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a gunner's mate from 1956 until 1962. Bob was a baseball fan and followed the Detroit Tigers even after moving to Missouri. He played fast pitch softball for many years when he was younger.

He married Sue Studebaker on July 28, 1973 in Hesperia, Michigan. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include three children, Bobbi Barnett and her husband, Justin, Joplin, William Robert Balcom, Jr., Joplin, Chad Balcom, Republic; siblings, Vera, Laura, Alice, Art, Oradon; grandchildren, Austin, Cailyn, Josiah, Courtney, Hailey, Tuff, Cameron, Wyatt; and close family friends, Patty, Becca, Tracy, Dr. Scott McClintock and Tamara Colson.

A memorial visitation is planned for Monday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the United Way, both in care of Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
