DIES SUDDENLY WHILE ON VISIT
Glenville, November 1 – Adam Werner, Sr., a retired farmer and one of the most aged residents of Codorus Township, died suddenly this morning about 9 o’clock while sitting in a rocking chair in the old Werner homestead occupied by William Miller, whom he was visiting. Death was due to paralysis.
Mr. Werner, who was in his ninetieth year, had retired from active farming ten years ago. Feeling in good health this morning he decided to pay a visit to the old homestead, a short distance from the home of his son, Adam Werner, Jr., with whom he resided. Entering the Miller home, he sat down on a rocking chair for a rest. Shortly afterward his head was seen to fall back by Florence and Katie Miller, children of the tenants on the farm, who were in the kitchen at the time. They hurriedly summoned their parents, who were on the outside. An investigation revealed that the man was dead. His son was summoned and later the body was removed to his home.
During his long career Mr. Werner had never been known to have suffered from a serious sickness. He was a lifelong resident of the vicinity of Brodbeck, near where his home is located. He is the son of Jacob Werner, and the last of a family of 12 children.
Besides his son, Adam, with whom he resided, two daughters, Mrs. Urias Kaltreider, of Brodbeck, and Mrs. Emanuel Walker, of Hanover, survive.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday morning from his late home. Short services will be held at the house at 9:30 o’clock, after which the funeral party will proceed to Stone Church, where concluding services will be held. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery. The Rev. John S. Guth, pastor of the Jefferson Reformed charge, will officiate.
