Martha Louise ("Marty") Rowsey Anthis, 77, a lifelong resident of Muskogee, died Saturday, August 6, 2005. Born April 21, 1928 in Muskogee to Paul Edward and Valena George Rowsey, she was married to Ernest R. Anthis, Jr, an attorney.

Marty attended Muskogee schools and then traveled to Chicago where she attended The Ferry Hall School in Lake Forest, Illinois. She was elected president of the student body and graduated with honors. She then enrolled at the University of Oklahoma where she studied for two years. During this time she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She transferred to Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and graduated with a degree in English. She then accepted a merit scholarship to Pennsylvania State University where she earned a Master of Arts in English.

Marty was an avid and competitive tennis player and golfer, as well as a coach to numerous young people in Muskogee. She was an interested, and interesting, conversationalist and enjoyed people, education, history, and her church. She was a friend to many and "Aunt Marty" to her nieces and nephews.

Marty was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Muskogee Country Club, Kappa Kappa Gamma, P.E.O., Keystone Study Club, and the Garden Study Club, as well as a chairperson of the Muskogee Public Library.

Marty was a devoted and patient spouse and the primary caregiver for her husband, "Juju," who passed away from a lengthy illness in 2002. She also provided loving care for her mother who died in 1995.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul E. Rowsey, Jr. and survived by his wife Marianne. She is survived by her brother, James Patton Rowsey of Muskogee and preceded in death by his late wife Candy. She is also survived by her brother and sisters-in-law Robert and Jean Anthis, Anna Anthis Brennan of Muskogee, and Felicitas L. Anthis of Muskogee. Other surviving relatives include nieces and nephews Carol Rowsey Solomon of Oklahoma City, Paul E. Rowsey, III of Dallas, John F. Rowsey of Colorado Springs, David R. Rowsey and Ann Rowsey White of Tulsa; cousins William E. Rowsey, III of Houston, Francie Rowsey Collins and Jennifer Rowsey Lafortune of Tulsa, and Jeffrey Rowsey of Muskogee, and a large number of grand nieces and nephews, all of whom she cared for deeply.

A memorial service to celebrate Marty's life will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Muskogee at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2005. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2130 West Okmulgee, Muskogee, OK 74401.
