Helen E. Bloom, 86, of Newville died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, in Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.

She was born March 12, 1924, in Newville, the daughter of Harry and Grace Chestnut Barrick.

Mrs. Bloom was the widow of Harry F. Bloom, who died April 22, 1992.

She had worked for the Newville Shoe Factory and U-Wanna-Wash-Frocks of Newville.

Mrs. Bloom had attended the Doubling Gap Church of God and Guisetown Bethany Church. She was involved with the First Care Program.

She loved gardening, baking and her three cats.

Mrs. Bloom is survived by four daughters, Darlene, Maxine, Josephine and her husband and Caroldene; one sister, Alverta; 18 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter Shirley; and two great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Egger Funeral Home Inc., 15 Big Spring Ave. Newville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville.
