Bill served in the Marine Corp for two tours of duty: World War II and the Korean War. He also worked in the Moss Point School System for 10 years as a teacher and a principal. After retirement from Chevron, where he worked for 30+ years, he became an associate pastor at Wade Baptist Church and served there for 9 years. Bill served as a Scout Master for Troop 231 in Kreole, MS.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Spruell; mother, Nettie Haarala, and sister, Patricia Gattis Oliver.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Spruell; children, Lynne Mitchell (Charles) and Karen Sigrest (Richard); grandchildren, Thomas Mitchell (Carissa), Michelle Mitchell and Landon Sigrest; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary Mitchell and Alexandria Allen; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Richard and Landon Sigrest, Thomas Mitchell, Phillip Vinson, Hank Snow, Gene Moody, and Steve Carter. Honorary pallbearers are the men in his Sunday School class at Wade Baptist Church and the men from Boy Scout Troop 231 from Kreole, MS, which was the love of his life.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Moss Point/Escatawpa. Funeral service will be at Wade Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2014. Interment will follow at Serene Memorial Gardens in Moss Point/Escatawpa.
