Killed in the Battle of Gaines Mill, Virginia.

"Memorial marker, placed between the graves
of his parents; he was buried on or near the
battlefield.
He was the oldest child of Theophilus and Rebecca CRUMPTON NICHOLS. There is an inscription that
begins, "In the twinkling of an eye this precious
youth was called to die."
