Thyra Velma Greene, age 87, passed away February 2, 2002, in Stanwood, WA in a care facility. She was a longtime Bellingham, WA resident. She was born in Tescott, Kansas to Artie and Tillie Greene on March 31, 1914. She moved to Bellingham in 1940 and has resided there since. She enjoyed her work in several bakeries, Mannings Cafeteria, as a housekeeper at Western Washington State dorms, cooking in public school cafeterias and working five summers for Whitney Fildago fisheries at Kodiak Island, Alaska. She loved to knit, crochet things for her grandchildren and play cards, especially cribbage with her partner Louie. She leaves to mourn her passing her companion Louie Elick, whom she first met January 28, 1981 4 children, Elaine Healy of Camano Island, WA, Sharon McLeroy and husband Jerry of Oak Harbor, WA, daughter, Pam Comfort of Tacoma, WA and son, Craig Comfort and wife Trudy of Bellingham brother, Kenneth Greene and wife Muriel of Tescott, Kansas. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for over 50 years.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 8, 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, corner of Northwest and McLeod Roads, Bellingham, with burial to follow in Greenacres Memorial Park. Rev. R. L. Christensen will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in her name to Hospice of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 520, Everett, WA 98201-3581.
