ABBEVILLE. . .Martha Helton Giganti, a resident of Abbeville, died late Tuesday morning, December 9, 2014, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 102.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 10, 2014, in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Ross Kilpatrick officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mrs. Giganti was a lifelong resident of Abbeville, daughter of the late John William Helton, Sr. and Lucy Pauline Richards Helton. She was a graduate of the State Secondary Agricultural School in Abbeville. Mrs. Giganti attended the Alabama College at Montevallo and received a teaching certificate from Troy Normal College. She also received a degree in Mathematics Education from Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Mrs. Giganti retired from U.S. Civil Service at Fort Rucker as a Supervisor in the Finance and Accounting Office. She was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church where she formerly taught Sunday School. Mrs. Giganti was a former member of the Twilight Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Giganti, Sr., a granddaughter, Garnet Garvin, a brother, John William Helton, Jr., and a sister, Eva Helton Roberson.
Surviving relatives include a son, James M. Giganti, Jr. (Susanne), Abbeville; two grandchildren, Jamie Giganti-Stover (Zac), San Diego, CA; and Christopher Giganti, New York City; a sister, Mary Lucy Woolf, North Jackson, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Michiko Helton, Riverside, CA; several nieces and nephews.
