In the Renoir biography written by Barbara Erlich White he is referred to as visiting his grandchildren (the children of Aline and Pierre-Auguste Renoir) in 1897, "In the winter of 1897, when Pierre was twelve and Jean was three, Victor Charigot, their maternal grandfather, who by then had moved to North Dakota, came to France and met his grandsons for the first and only time. Victor stayed in France for a few months, returned to his American family and died at aged sixty-two in December of 1898."
His first marriage was to Therese Emilie Maire (mother of Aline) in 1858 and they divorced in 1887.
He then married Armeline Ermalie Reopelle.
